Crock Pot Spicy Asian-style Wings

Juicy and mildly spicy, these Asian-inspired wings are cooked in a slow cooker. So easy to make for a Super Bowl party and you'll have time to spend with guests and watching the big game.

Every Super Bowl Sunday we fix some flavor of chicken wings along with our Seafood Nachos. We found this recipe for spicy Asian-style barbeque wings in a Southern Living magazine, tweaked it slightly and we really liked the results. Of course, we love anything with Sriracha, an Asian hot chili sauce. It lends a peppery spiciness that combines well with the honey barbeque sauce to compliment the wings my favorite way…sweet and spicy.

We particularly like the fact that the wings can be prepared several hours before everyone arrives. The recipe can be doubled, too. Just make sure to broil the chicken in at least two batches. If the chicken is too crowded on the rack it will not brown properly. Once you prepare the chicken for the slow cooker and pour the sauce over the pieces, the lid goes on and the slow cooker does all of the work while you prepare for the big game.

Let’s face it, no matter what teams are playing the mood is festive, the food is plentiful and delicious and if your favorite team wins, that’s the cherry on top of a fun evening!

Makes 2 to 4 servings



chicken drumettes and wings, about 20 of them


teaspoon salt


teaspoon pepper


cup honey-barbeque sauce


tablespoons Sriracha hot chili sauce, depending on how hot you want it


tablespoon soy sauce


garlic cloves, pressed


Sesame seeds, sliced green onion for garnish, if desired




1.    Preheat the broiler in the oven. Set the oven rack about 3-5 inches from the heat.


2.    Sprinkle the drumettes and wings with salt and pepper and space them out on a rack in a broiler-proof pan. Broil them until they are browned, about 8 minutes. Broil in batches if necessary to keep the chicken pieces from being too close together.

3.    Place the browned chicken in a slow cooker. They will be layered on top of each other.


4.    Combine the barbecue sauce and the next 3 ingredients to make the sauce. Pour evenly over the chicken in the slow cooker. Cover and cook on LOW for 3 hours. If desired, garnish by sprinkling with sesame seeds and thinly sliced green onion.
