Doris' Apple Spice Bread

Doris' Apple Spice Bread finished

Spices mixed with apple chunks make this bread moist and delicious.

Doris’ Apple Spice Bread is a sweet, moist bread with loads of flavor due to lots of apple, clove, and cinnamon. Wow, we really love this one!

My cousin, Doris, is a very good cook. Every time I get a recipe from her kitchen, I know it’s going to be good and this one does not disappoint. You can ask my co-workers if you’d like!

I frequently take food into work, especially sweet things, since it is just Glenn and me at home much of the time and we don’t need to be having so many desserts. I do like to make sweet things and Glenn and I can have a piece or two, then off to either his or my work they go. You know, share the love (and the calories)!  ♥♥♥  I brought a plate of slices of Doris’ Apple Spice Bread into work and they were devoured within minutes. I always leave the room, but leave a sheet of paper near the plate so that anyone who feels moved to comment may do so without me hovering over them. So far, the comments have been honest with some commenting if they don’t like something I made. Well, the comments were all positive on this recipe! Not a single person had something negative to say about Doris’ Apple Spice Bread. I agree completely. If I hadn’t taken it into work after Glenn and I had our allotted piece (or two!) we would have eaten the whole loaf in a day.

This recipe makes one large loaf of bread or several small loaves. If using the small loaf pans, reduce the baking time accordingly.

The way to tell if the bread is done when baking it is to insert a toothpick into the middle of the loaf. Really, the middle, because the bread cooks from the outside in towards the middle, so to test to make sure it bakes completely through you have to check in the center. When the time is nearly up (the amount of time it will take varies slightly due to your oven, humidity, juiciness of the apples, and other factors), push a toothpick into the bread approximately in the middle of the loaf and carefully pull it back out again. If it comes out nearly clean, with tiny crumbs but no batter on it, it is done. If it has batter attached, it needs more time. Once it is close, check it every couple of minutes to see if it is done.

Once baked, let it cool for at least a few minutes in the pan or it will crumble. You can serve it warm or wait and serve it when it is completely cool. It will last for several days in the refrigerator if it is well covered.
