You will have a hard time missing the Habaneros Mexican Grill
sign at the corner of Aloma Avenue and Semoran Boulevard!
We normally do
not post information on restaurants that have multiple locations, but Habaneros Mexican Grill is different. It is a
chain with 6 restaurants, but they are all local and family owned, so we made an exception for them. How can you go
wrong at a restaurant when they place a basket full of warm corn tortilla chips and a bowl of fresh salsa in front
of you as soon as you’re seated and where the margaritas are some of the best we’ve ever

There are so many
things we like about Habaneros Mexican Grill. The service is swift and friendly, the restaurants are homey and
inviting, the food is really good, and the prices are reasonable.
When our favorite
Mexican restaurant closed a few years ago, we tried a lot of different Mexican places to try to find that “special
one”, a place we would love the food and atmosphere and where we could meet friends with the expectation that
everyone would be able to find things on the menu that they really liked. We found a few places we liked, but had
almost resigned ourselves to not finding one that we loved for the time being. Then one day we were in a rush
between two things on our schedules and decided to pop in at Habaneros. What a lucky day that was! We love
Habaneros. It has become our go-to place for great Mexican food.
We normally start
our meal with an appetizer of Cheese Dip. Their Cheese Dip is a mildly spiced, creamy, warm cheese dip served with
crunchy tortilla chips. It is very affordable at less than $3.50.
Warm cheese dip is really tasty. A great start to the
I always get a
margarita when we eat at Habaneros. Glenn always drives when we go there so I can have a drink. Their margaritas
are sooo good. They are strong without being overpowering, with a really good flavor. They make them fresh daily. I
prefer the frozen style. They keep them in one of those machines that stirs the frozen mixture constantly to keep
the texture fine and easy to drink. If you indulge, please be careful and have your designated driver get you home
safely. They run specials on their margaritas at different times. I like to get the smaller-sized special when we
go for a quick dinner, but they also offer two-fers on the large ones during happy hours.
Mexican Grill margaritas come in two sizes and in two-fers during happy hour.
The menu is
pretty large, but Glenn has tried many of the selections while Andy and I tend to stick to what we love best. All
of the dishes have been really good. Glenn’s favorites are the Pollo a la Mexicana, made with grilled chicken
breast cooked with jalapeño peppers, tomatoes, onions and cilantro and served with warm flour tortillas, and beans
and rice, the Carnitas, tender pork served with warm flour tortillas, beans and rice, and the Burrito Deluxe, two
burritos, one filled with chicken and beans and the other is filled with beef and beans, served with sour cream,
tomatoes and lettuce.

orders the Beef Fajitas, tasty beef slices cooked with onions and peppers and served with tomatoes, fresh
guacamole, and fried beans, or one of the combination dinners, with a huge number of choices combining enchiladas,
tacos, chile rellenos, tamales, burritos, quesadillas, and rice and beans.
Me, I am totally
in love with the Chimichanga, crunchy fried flour tortillas filled with a slightly spicy mixture of chicken,
tomatoes and peppers and topped with a cheese sauce, served with guacamole, sour cream, and a pool of
melted-cheese-topped refried beans. Yummy!
The prices are
good. Lunch prices range from $6.50 to $8.50 and at the time of this post, nothing on the dinner menu is more than
$15.00. Many choices are under $10.00. The amount of food has also never disappointed us. Everyone gets full and we
always have leftovers for another meal.
A couple of
things to keep in mind when planning to eat at Habaneros Mexican Grill. Each of the restaurants has a different
night where they have an authentic mariachi band perform. They are quite talented and fun to listen to, but if you
are planning to have a quiet evening talking with friends, you will want to go to one of the locations where the
band is not playing that night since they are pretty loud.
Also, after you
order, they serve the food really quickly. This is great if you are stopping for a quick bite, but if you plan to
take your time, order the appetizers and eat them, then right before you are ready to eat the entrée, order them.
I’m not kidding, the food comes out of the kitchen in just a few minutes, piping hot and
Even when the
food is served so quickly, the serving staff do not pressure customers to leave. We have spent as much as three
hours with friends talking at the table with the staff patient and friendly throughout. Don’t worry, we don’t do
that when the place is super busy and we always tip very well to compensate the wait staff for the time and
So, if you are in
the Orlando area and decide you want some really great Mexican food, look up your closest Habaneros Mexican Grill
restaurant and be prepared for an awesome meal served by friendly, warm people.
